12 years and counting

Roscoe and I had the amazing opportunity to spend last weekend at camp for our anniversary. Our anniversary falls on or around the archery elk hunt, so my suprise, for Roscoe being gone for the hunt, was a suprise weekend away with just us. It was so amazing! This weekend was both of our most favorite weekend together EVER! There is no cell phone coverage, tvs, no computers or portable DVD players, no music, the only noise is you and the wilderness. It was so quiet we could hear the bees buzzing . Out first day we unpacked, which was so easy we were almost lost. The tent was set up and so was everything else. The only thing we had to unpack was our sleeping bag, bags, and food. One of the very first things we acknowledged to each other was how grateful we are for our children. Not having anything to unpack and not having the kids there, made it so there was so much time. We both decided that it would be really easy to be very selfish without kids and how much our children keep us grounded and focused on what is really important. I also think that if you don't have children the only reason you would really be busy would be because you are making your life that way. No way, even if you have a "very important" job could you really be busy if it is just you. Kids make you busy the rest you are choosing to make your life busy with . Once we acknowledged how grateful we were for our children, we then acknowledged how grateful we were to be ALONE without them. It was SO FUN!!

We slept wonderfully! No way we were going to be cold. The first night we made a fire in the stove and ended up having to open the door and window because it was TOO HOT!Saturday August 14, 2010
The sun is starting to peak up from behind the mountain. We took a small walk to sit and watch the sunrise
We were sitting on a rock in the middle of this while these flowers while waiting for the sun to rise. Everyone should get up every once in a while just to see the our beautiful sun rise.
seeing the peaks beyond the mountains we were in was very neat to me.
I love this picture. We are so happy! this was us watching the sunrise.
My beautiful husband practicing for the hunt. this picture is out of order, it was the end of the first day.
After breakfast which was bacon, eggs, and potatoes from the garden we set off on a 10 mile hike to a small pond across the mountain or through the mountains, that we could see through the binochulars. Notice that hill behind us? It is only one of the hills we hiked down and for every hill we went down we had to go up another. We both loved it!
Yep that was in the middle of one of the hills on our way over to the pond.
Almost there..I think!
Once we arrived at the pond we found a shady spot to sit and eat our lunch before we started back. I loved excerting my energy on a hike with Roscoe. We needed to hike together. Not a soul around us, only us the Bears, Elk, Deer, and all the other living creatures. I was sure the bears were all around us. Dave saw 3 last year alone. I kept thinking in my head " No bears are out tonight, daddy shot them all last night". This was a game we would play in the dark when were little kids.
I was sitting by the fire ,when I turned around to see all of our food from the garden that was sitting on the table, the only thing I could think was how incredible and how grateful I was that we had all of this amazing delicious food that was grown from the garden. How blessed we were! How wonderful it is that we have such great friends that share their garden food and allow us to work in the garden with them.
Enjoying our steak dinner.
There is nothing can prepare you for the beauty that is up here pictures couldn't even begin to explain the beauty that is here. The beauty goes beyond what the eyes can see, it is also in what you can feel.
Roscoe and I saying goodbye to camp, for me until next year, for him.. well he is there now. Hopefully getting us an elk to fill our freezer for the winter.
After we packed up we drove maybe 10 min to a spot that they all hunt. We stayed very quiet for this entire walk and through this entire area, to not spook the elk. It was INCREDIBLE! We walked through this path that was surrounded by huge live pines and huge dead pines. I felt so small. This entire trip I was very aware of small I really am in this great amazing world we have been given. This meadow is dear to the families that come up to this area. It now is also very special to me. I will always hold this entire place very close to my heart. I could go into alot that we both felt here, but I think I will keep that for us. It was SO QUIET! It was breathtaking! Try to use your imagination..it can take you anywhere when you are on Gods beautiful earth.
There are sheep hearders that live here in a tiny tiny trailer. This one of them on our way out, out. I thought it was funny he was on his phone. A phone seems so out of place in a place like this.
I will always be grateful that Roscoe and I were able to enjoy this time together. To feel the peace and quiet that we both very much needed after the hardest year of our 12 yrs together. To be able to be somewhere so quiet that we could think and reflect on life and what really matters. To after 12 years still be SO IN LOVE! More in love. I am married to an amazing man and he is my best friend! I love him! We are so grateful to have such amazing friends that help us in so many ways. That love us and take care of us. To have friends that take on our children as their own in every sense of the way. To know that our children are loved and safe when we are not there. Thank you we love you both more then you know!
Thank you to both grandmas and grandpa for helping with the kids. Too bad they were sick.

It does sound like a little piece of heaven. I remember when we did not have cell phones at all so going on a trip was always pretty much like that. You could use the motel phone but who had money to spend on phone calls we would rather spend it at Disney Land or Yellowstone store. When you went on vacation you went on vacation to get away from everything at home. Now with the cell phone you take everything with you so it is almost not like you never left.

Grandpa (Does that say anything, Grandpa)
