For Cyndell's 12th birthday we have always told her she could have a pocket knife. One of Roscoe's friends has amazing talents in many many things. He gave Roscoe metal files and then directions on how to cure the metal to make it bendable with the directions on how to make the knives. I not really being the artist type was curious how he was really going to do this. Months ago he threw the metal file in our fire pit outside and left in for about 6 hours in the hottest fire he could make. SOmehow this makes the metal more pliable. Then he took the scraps of the mahogony we had left from Jagers bow to make the handle grip for the knife. He spent many nights up late and at our favoritest peoples workshop working on them to get them ready for her birthday. It was very beautiful when she recieved them from her dad. One is a caping knife, the other is a skinning knife. Cyndell will be going on her first elk hunt this Janurary, so she needed her knifes.
Here are the finished products. The lighting isn't good and I couldn't make it be that day nor did I care to make myself have the pactience. This is the skinnng knife.

This is the caping knife, that means it is like skinning knife only it allows you to be more detailed in your work, ecspecially if you are trying to save your mount.

This the file and wood that these knifes started out as. Who would have guessed that's what that metal and wood would have become. Not I said the fly!

My husbands talent leaves me speechless often. I feel blessed that our children can receive these handmade homemade gifts from their father. Stay tuned Dell's 12th bday pics are up next. Thank you to all that read my blog! It keeps me journaling more then I would make time for.
