This is Jager picking up the hats from his preschool.
Before we started our drive I had spoken with Rachelle the life specialist in the oncology unit to check protocol and set everything up. A few days before we gathered all of our baskets I again spoke with Rachelle to set up a time for them to come up. Our time was May 7, 2010 at 1:30. Rachelle mentioned the 1st time that I spoke with her that they had the hat tree and the kids could come and hang the hats on the tree. We met with Rachelle on the 4th floor where she took us into the oncology unit to hang the hats on the hat tree. Rachelle spent about an hour talking with them. The kids were able to watch a boy that was about 3 come up to the just filled hat tree and pick a new hat. He picked a U of U cap. That was exciting for them to see how what they had done affected these kids. Rachelle walked them through the room where the kids go and sit for their actual treament, then sat and showed them what a port is and how it works. Jager was very serious when she was talking about the port. Roscoe and I both just sat back and let the kids talk about what they have learned about cancer. It was good for them to put this reality and place to their lives. From all of us THANK YOU for helping us to make this hat drive happen. We will never forget our 1st hat donation drive!
